Use stages, tents, curtains, and special objects

Configure a Biljax stage deck by deck, fit tent sidewalls slot by slot, and shape a pleated Procedural Curtain in Event Design App.

In Event Design App, stages, tents and curtains are configurable catalog objects: you set a Biljax stage's rows, columns, height, stairs, skirts and rails; fill a tent's numbered sidewall slots one at a time; and shape a Procedural Curtain with width, height and fold settings. Each has its own section in the Properties panel.

Scope: the stage section covers the Biljax Stage Builder only. Tent sidewalls work only on tent models that support them, and some tents need a paid plan. The Procedural Curtain is available on Free.

Some catalog objects aren't a single model you drop and move. A stage (platform or riser) is a grid of decks with stairs, skirts and rails. A tent (marquee or canopy) has numbered sidewall positions for its side panels. A curtain (drape or backdrop) is a shape you stretch and bend. Each one gets its own settings section in the Properties panel, so click the object and look for it.

This article covers three families. Save and refresh after editing any of them to confirm the configuration persisted.

How to build a stage with the Biljax Stage Builder

📺 Configure a Biljax Stage and Review Its Components — a 3 × 4 stage with stairs, skirts and rails.

Biljax Stage Builder is the modular stage object, built from fixed 4 ft × 4 ft decks. Search the catalog for Biljax, choose Biljax Stage Builder, and click an open area of the canvas. Click the stage again to select it. The Properties panel now reads Biljax Stage Builder.

How to set the stage footprint

Enter Rows and Columns, then choose Apply Footprint. Each deck is a fixed 4 ft × 4 ft, so three rows by four columns makes 12 decks and a 16 × 12 ft stage (shown as 4.88 × 3.66 m in the Summary). The limit is 20 by 20.

⚠ Typing isn't applying. Nothing changes until you choose Apply Footprint.

How to set the stage deck height

Enter a height under Deck Height and choose Apply. Height runs from 12 in to 70 in and snaps to 1-inch steps. For a 36 in stage, enter 36 in (914 mm in a metric plan). The footprint stays put while the deck rises.

Height decides your rails. Up to 30 in, the builder uses horizontal guard panels. Above 30 in it uses vertical guardrails.

How to add stairs, skirts and guardrails

The Biljax Stage Builder sets stairs, skirts and guardrails side by side (North, East, South, West).

  • Stair Sides. Choose a side (North, East, South, West). A Stair Bay row appears for that side, with numbered bays. Choose bay 2 to place the opening along that edge. The builder picks the smallest Ultra-Stair that suits your height; at 36 in that's a six-step stair.

  • Stage Skirt Sides. Select the sides to dress. Skirts follow the edge and leave an opening at the stairs. Check that the opening lines up with your stair bay.

  • Guardrail Sides. Select the sides to rail. The builder fills exposed bays and keeps the stair opening clear.

⚠ Rails are a requirement, not just a look. Above 24 in the panel recommends guardrails on exposed edges, and above 30 in it flags missing ones as an error. Read the notices at the bottom of the panel until they clear.

How to read the stage Summary and Derived BOM

The Summary gives the stage footprint, rail type and stair model. Derived BOM (bill of materials) is the parts list. For the 3 × 4, 36 in stage with a stair and rails on all sides, the lesson gets:

Part

Count

Decks

12

Shared support legs, rubber base pads, snap pins

20 each

Six-step Ultra-Stair

1

Vertical guardrails

13

Skirt sections

13

⚠ Cross braces are a note, not a line in the parts list. Above 30 in the panel notes that cross braces are required (brace each corner and every third bay; two per braced bay, three above 48 in). They don't appear in Derived BOM, so add them to your own planning notes. Stairs above 36 in also need two extra support legs and snap pins each.

If the footprint looks wrong, check Rows and Columns first. Undo restores the previous configuration.

Inspect in top view for the footprint and stair opening, then in perspective for height, rails, skirts and approach space. Leave room for people to reach the stairs.

How to add sidewalls to a tent, slot by slot

📺 Place a Catalog Tent and Configure Sidewall Slots — a 20 × 20 frame tent with three sidewalls.

There is no separate tent-size or bay builder. You place a catalog tent, then fit sidewalls into its slots — the numbered positions on the tent where a sidewall panel can go.

  1. Open the catalog category menu, choose Tents, and pick a tent your plan includes. Click the canvas once to place it. Not every model supports sidewalls.

  2. Click the tent. Tent Sidewalls appears, with a count such as 0/8 slots filled. If it says Select tent in scene to discover slots, click the tent in the scene.

  3. The panel starts in Applied mode, and Pick Sidewall is disabled. Choose Edit first.

  4. Choose Pick Sidewall and pick a style, such as Cathedral. It appears under Selected sidewall.

  5. Click a highlighted position on the tent. The count goes up by one. Add the next, one at a time, checking the counter against what you see.

  6. To keep an opening, click a filled slot again to remove its panel. Fill All and Clear All do everything at once.

  7. Choose Apply to lock your selections. Orbit around the whole tent and confirm the sidewalls and openings. Save.

⚠ Picking a sidewall doesn't fill any slot. It only chooses the style. You still click positions, or use Fill All.

⚠ Apply doesn't fill the remaining slots. It ends editing and locks the slots you've chosen. In the lesson, three of eight are filled and the rest stay open.

💡 The blue highlight can linger over an empty slot. It's an editing guide. Judge the opening in Applied view.

How to shape a Procedural Curtain

The Procedural Curtain (in the Decor & Accessories catalog category, available on Free) is a pleated curtain or backdrop you shape rather than pick a size for. Place it and select it. The properties panel shows Curtain Shape:

Field

What it does

Top Width, Middle Width, Bottom Width

Width at each level, so a curtain can taper

Height

How tall it hangs

Curve Depth

Bows the top and bottom edges

Middle Bend

Pushes the middle in or out

Folds, Fold Amp.

Pleat count (1–64) and depth

Orientation

Vertical or Horizontal

A new curtain is about 8 ft wide and 8 ft tall, with 18 folds. You can also drag red anchor handles on the curtain itself; see Edit curtain anchors and width.

How to find settings for other special objects

Some objects show their own settings section instead of only generic dimensions. If a catalog item has extra controls, they appear in the Properties panel when you select it. See Use the properties panel.

Troubleshooting

Pick Sidewall is greyed out. The tent is in Applied mode. Choose Edit.

I picked a sidewall and nothing appeared. Picking only chooses the style. Click the highlighted positions, or choose Fill All.

The count says 0/8 slots filled and I can't see highlights. Check the right tent is selected and that you're in Edit mode. A tent without discoverable slots won't offer this workflow.

There's still a highlight on a slot I emptied. It's an editing guide. Choose Apply and check the final view.

My stage didn't change when I typed new rows. Choose Apply Footprint.

My deck height changed by a few millimeters. Height snaps to 1-inch steps.

The panel says guardrails are required. Stage height is above 30 in. Select the exposed sides under Guardrail Sides.

Where are the cross braces in the parts list? They're a note only. Plan them separately.

A tent isn't in my catalog. Some models need a paid plan, or aren't in your plan's catalog. See Why a feature is locked.

Frequently asked questions

How do I build a stage?

Search the catalog for Biljax, place Biljax Stage Builder, and select it. Enter Rows and Columns, then choose Apply Footprint; each deck is 4 ft × 4 ft, so 3 rows by 4 columns makes 12 decks and a 16 × 12 ft stage. Set Deck Height from 12 to 70 inches and choose Apply.

Why didn't my stage change when I typed new rows?

In the Biljax Stage Builder, typing Rows and Columns changes nothing until you choose Apply Footprint. Deck Height works the same way and needs Apply. If the footprint still looks wrong, check Rows and Columns first (the limit is 20 by 20), and use Undo to restore the previous configuration.

When does a stage need guardrails?

In the Biljax Stage Builder, a deck height up to 30 in uses horizontal guard panels, and above 30 in it uses vertical guardrails. Above 24 in the panel recommends guardrails on exposed edges, and above 30 in it flags missing ones as an error. Select the exposed sides under Guardrail Sides until the notices clear.

Are cross braces included in the stage parts list?

No. Cross braces appear as a note in the Biljax Stage Builder panel above 30 in, not as a line in Derived BOM. Brace each corner and every third bay, with two per braced bay and three above 48 in. Add them to your own planning notes.

Why is Pick Sidewall greyed out on my tent?

The Tent Sidewalls panel starts in Applied mode, where Pick Sidewall is disabled. Choose Edit first, then Pick Sidewall and a style such as Cathedral, then click highlighted positions on the tent one at a time. Picking a style does not fill any slot, and Apply locks only the slots you filled.

How do I shape a curtain or backdrop?

Place a Procedural Curtain from the Decor & Accessories category, select it, and use Curtain Shape in the Properties panel. Set Top Width, Middle Width and Bottom Width to taper it, plus Height, Curve Depth, Middle Bend and Folds (1–64). A new curtain is about 8 × 8 ft with 18 folds.
