Use Quick Layout presets

Event Design App's Quick Layout turns one table or any selection into a full room layout using eight presets, with exact fields for each.

Quick Layout in Event Design App copies whatever you have selected into one of eight patterns — Grid, Angled Grid, Rows, Diagonal, Curved, Circle, U Shape or Pyramid — so you never place the second table by hand. Pick a preset, set its fields, check the counters, and choose Apply.

Scope: Quick Layout works in 3D plans only, and only when something is selected. To build the table you are repeating, start with Use Table Designer.

You've built one good table and you need twenty of them, evenly spaced, in the shape your room calls for (a banquet seating chart, a horseshoe, a ring of rounds). Quick Layout copies (duplicates) whatever you have selected into a pattern, so you never place the second table by hand.

📺 Table Designer — the Quick Layout section covers every preset below.

How to open Quick Layout

Quick Layout opens from the Properties panel (the settings panel) on any selection. The button's tooltip reads Duplicate selected object(s) into a Quick Layout arrangement.

  1. Select the object or objects you want to repeat. A full table assembly (a table with its chairs and place settings) works well, but any selection does.

  2. In the Properties panel, choose Quick Layout.

  3. Pick a preset icon. The fields below the icons change for each preset.

  4. Check the live preview, then choose Apply.

Your selection is the source. Quick Layout duplicates it into the pattern and adds the copies to your plan. Everything you selected is copied together, so a selection of three objects is repeated as a group of three.

How to read the Quick Layout counters

Before you choose Apply, Quick Layout shows four counters that tell you what you're about to create.

Counter

What it counts

Total items

Positions in the pattern

Selected objects

How many objects are in each position

Total objects

Total items × selected objects

New objects

What Apply adds — one position is your original

A 2×2 grid of a 32-object table set is 4 items and 128 objects. If Total objects is bigger than you expected, fix the numbers before you apply, not after.

💡 Try presets against the same source. After Apply, use Undo to return to the single original, then open Quick Layout again and try the next preset.

How Quick Layout spacing is measured

Every spacing field in Quick Layout is a feet-and-inches pair. Space Between Columns and Space Between Rows measure from table center to table center, not from edge to edge. Twelve feet between the centers of two 60″ rounds leaves roughly seven feet between the table edges, and less once chairs are pulled out.

What each of the eight Quick Layout presets does

Quick Layout offers eight presets, each with its own fields.

Grid — Columns, Rows, Space Between Columns, Space Between Rows. Up to 20 of each. The preview opens as 5 columns by 4 rows at 9 ft. Use it for classic banquet rooms.

Angled Grid — the Grid fields plus Angle (0–360). The pattern is rotated as a whole. The source stays the same, so you can compare it directly against Grid. Check the outer corners, where an angled block pokes out furthest.

Rows — Items per Row, Number of Rows, and the two spacing fields. There is no aisle field. To open an aisle, increase Space Between Rows. In the Academy lesson, 12 ft between columns and 16 ft between rows gives two banks of tables with a generous route between them.

Diagonal — Number of Columns, Number of Rows, both spacings, Aisle, and Angle. This is the only preset with a true aisle control. It splits the pattern into two angled banks with the aisle between them. Treat the Aisle value as a starting point and check the gap between the nearest chairs.

Curved — Columns, Rows, both spacings, and Angle. There is no radius field. The curve comes from the counts, spacing and angle. Inspect the inside of the curve, where furniture bunches up, as well as the outside, where it spreads.

Circle — Number of Items, Gap Between Items, Angle, and a Closed Circle switch. Up to 50 items.

U Shape — Items in First Row, Items on Wings, and both spacings.

Pyramid — Items in First Row, Item increment, Number of Rows, and both spacings.

Why Circle, U Shape and Pyramid layouts surprise people

Three Quick Layout presets behave in ways people don't expect.

1. Circle has no radius. The ring is sized by Gap Between Items, so a larger gap makes a larger circle. With six items and a 3 ft gap, tables and chairs overlap in the preview. At 16 ft, the ring opens up. Turn Closed Circle on for a full ring (the Academy lesson uses six items with it on). Check the center and the route around the outside.

2. U Shape shares its corners. Three in the first row plus three on each wing is seven sets, not nine and not six — the two corner positions belong to both the first row and a wing. Read Total items before you apply. After applying, check the open side, the center, and both inside corners for a clear walking route.

3. Pyramid grows by an increment. It starts from Items in First Row and adds Item increment to every row after. Start at 1, increment 1, 3 rows: rows of 1, 2 and 3 — six sets. Start at 2 with an increment of 2 and 3 rows: 2, 4 and 6 — twelve. An increment of 0 gives equal rows. Larger numbers grow the footprint very quickly, so read Total items first.

⚠ Spacing is a layout setting, not a guarantee of comfort. The numbers measure table centers. Judge the real free space from the top view, including chairs that stick out into the aisle.

How to finish and verify a Quick Layout

After applying a Quick Layout, check it in four steps.

  1. Apply the preset.

  2. Use Focus on the selection to frame the whole result.

  3. Deselect and inspect from top view, then perspective.

  4. Save, return to the project, reopen the plan, and refresh the page once. Confirm every table is still there.

⚠ A blank plan has no walls or doors. Check entrances and circulation in your real room before treating the arrangement as final. For local fixes after Apply, use the normal selection tools.

Troubleshooting

My circle layout has tables on top of each other. Increase Gap Between Items. There's no radius field.

My U Shape made seven sets, not six or nine. The corners are shared by the first row and the wings.

My Pyramid has more tables than I expected. The row count grows by Item increment each row. Lower the increment or the number of rows.

I can't find an Aisle field. Only Diagonal has one. For Rows, increase Space Between Rows.

I can't find a radius or arc field on Curved. There isn't one. Adjust Angle, the counts, and the spacing.

Quick Layout is greyed out and the tooltip says "Quick Layout is unavailable". It needs a selection, and it only exists in 3D plans. Select an object first.

The layout vanished after I refreshed. Don't treat a layout as saved until you've saved, reopened the plan, and refreshed once. See Save, autosave and refresh safely. If it keeps happening, check that you don't have the same plan open in a second browser tab.

I want to change the table inside the layout. Build a new set in Table Designer, then repeat the layout. Keep the old one until the new one is ready.

Frequently asked questions

How do I arrange tables in a circle?

Select your table, open Quick Layout in the Properties panel, and choose the Circle preset. Circle has no radius field; you size the ring with Gap Between Items. With six items, a 3 ft gap makes tables and chairs overlap, while 16 ft opens the ring. Turn on Closed Circle for a full ring.

Why does my U Shape layout create seven sets instead of six or nine?

In Quick Layout, the U Shape preset shares its two corner positions between the first row and the wings. Three in the first row plus three on each wing gives seven sets, not nine or six. Check the Total items counter before choosing Apply.

How many tables will a Pyramid layout create?

In Quick Layout, Pyramid starts from Items in First Row and adds the Item increment to every later row. Starting at 1 with increment 1 over 3 rows makes rows of 1, 2 and 3: six sets. Starting at 2 with increment 2 gives 2, 4 and 6: twelve sets.

How is spacing measured in Quick Layout?

Space Between Columns and Space Between Rows in Quick Layout measure from table center to table center, not edge to edge. Twelve feet between the centers of two 60-inch rounds leaves roughly seven feet between table edges, and less once chairs are pulled out. Judge real clearance in top view.

Can I undo a Quick Layout and try another preset?

Yes. Choose Undo after Apply to return to the single original selection. You can then reopen Quick Layout and try another preset against the same source. Before applying, read Total objects: a 2×2 grid of a 32-object table set is 4 items and 128 objects.

Does Quick Layout have an aisle setting?

Only the Diagonal preset in Quick Layout has a true Aisle field, which splits the pattern into two angled banks. For Rows, open an aisle by increasing Space Between Rows; 12 ft between columns and 16 ft between rows leaves a generous route. Curved has no radius field.
