The Event Design App editor has six areas: the Catalog on the left for finding and placing models, the canvas in the center for your 3D scene, Properties on the right for selected-object options, a header with Save and Export, a bottom toolbar of tools, and a view control for switching Top and Perspective.
Most "the editor isn't working" moments are really "I'm looking at the wrong panel." Once you know what each area does, you can tell in a second whether a control is missing or simply not meant for what you've selected.
📺 Navigate Perspective View: Orbit, Pan, Zoom, and Fly — a guided tour of the layout, with camera practice.
[SCREENSHOT 1 — the full editor with the six areas labeled: Catalog, canvas, Properties, header, bottom toolbar, view control]
The editor is split into six areas:
Area | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Catalog | Left | Search and browse models (the furniture, items and products you can add), then place them. |
Canvas | Center | Your 3D scene (your layout or seating chart). Everything you build is here. |
Properties | Right | Shows options (the settings) for whatever is selected, and general scene controls when nothing is. |
Header | Top | Plan actions: Save, Undo, Redo, Templates, Export, Share, and the back arrow to your project. |
Bottom toolbar | Bottom | Selection and construction tools: Select, Selection Box (drag a rectangle to select several objects), walls, shapes, Lock, Focus, Isolate, Grid, floor-plan import. |
View control | Upper right of the canvas | Switches between Top and Perspective. |
Two more controls appear only when they apply. The floating transform toolbar (Move, Rotate, Scale, Delete) shows up above the canvas when you select an object. The axis widget in the lower right corner jumps the camera to a straight front or side view.
On a smaller screen, panels collapse behind toggles and the more-actions menu keeps the header usable.
Type a word like "chair" in the Search models... box and the list narrows. The category dropdown above it (it starts on All Categories) narrows further. Searching never touches objects already in your scene — it only filters what you can add. Clear the search when you want the full list back.
Details on searching and placing are in Search and place catalog models.
Selection drives the whole editor: click an object and three things happen together:
An outline and transform handles appear on it.
Properties switches to that object and lists its options and colors.
The floating transform toolbar appears above the canvas (the small bar of Move, Rotate and Scale buttons, sometimes called handles or arrows).
Click empty canvas and all three go away. The object-specific options disappear from Properties and only general scene controls remain.
Different objects expose different controls. Select a sofa, then a chair, and compare the panel — it changes. So if an option seems to be missing, check two things before anything else: what is actually selected, and what type of object it is.
[SCREENSHOT 2 — a chair selected: outline, handles, floating toolbar, and Properties showing one selected chair]
⚠ Always confirm what's selected before you use Move, Rotate or Scale. The same handle does a different job in each tool, and a generated table selects its chairs along with it.
You move the camera (to zoom, spin or slide the view around your layout) with the mouse or the keyboard. Use the mouse for the camera:
Orbit: drag on empty canvas with the left mouse button (in Perspective).
Pan: hold the right mouse button and drag. The camera and its target move together, so the view slides without turning.
Zoom: roll the mouse wheel with the pointer over the canvas. Work in small steps — it's easy to end up inside a nearby object.
Or use the keyboard:
Key | Camera moves |
|---|---|
W / S | Forward / backward |
A / D | Left / right |
Page Up / Page Down | Up / down |
Forward, backward, left and right follow the ground plane relative to the way you're looking. The camera moves; your furniture doesn't.
⚠ Camera keys only work when the canvas has focus. If you've just typed in the Catalog search, pressing W types the letter "w" instead of moving the view. Clear the search, click a blank spot on the canvas, and try again.
💡 Camera keys are ignored while Ctrl, Cmd or Alt is held, so they never collide with undo or other shortcuts.
For a straight overhead or perspective view, see Switch between Top and Perspective views.
The header's Save button shows Saving while it works and returns to Save when it's done. Wait for it to finish — clicking it isn't the same as being saved. The editor also autosaves about 60 seconds after your most recent change, and a new edit restarts that timer.
To leave, use the back arrow at the upper left. It returns you to the project and its plan list, and saves on the way out.
⚠ Don't refresh while a save is pending. If saving fails or a recovery prompt appears, stay in the editor, read the message, and use the action it offers.
Navigating is not editing. After orbiting, panning and zooming, nothing in the plan should have moved. If you want to prove it to yourself, drag one object a short distance, press Undo, and check it snaps back — then you know the difference between a camera change and a layout change.
Save, return to the project, reopen the plan, and confirm every object is still there. Refresh once to confirm it survives a fresh page load.
Name the six areas on your screen without looking at the table.
Select a chair, then a sofa, and compare Properties.
Click blank canvas and watch the object-specific options disappear.
Orbit, pan and zoom; then reach the same view with W/A/S/D and Page Up/Page Down.
Click in the Catalog search, press W, and recover.
Save, go back to the project, reopen.
The option I need isn't in Properties. Check the selection first. With nothing selected you only see scene controls, and different object types show different options.
The Properties panel says "No object selected". Click an object, wall or floor on the canvas.
W/A/S/D won't move the camera. A text field has focus. Clear the search, click empty canvas, try again.
The transform toolbar disappeared. It only shows while something is selected. Click the object again.
I can't find the Save button after the page got narrow. On smaller screens, header actions move into the more-actions menu.
My furniture looks like it moved after I navigated. Camera moves never change object positions. Press Undo once if you also dragged a handle by accident, then compare.
Save is in the header at the top of the editor, alongside Undo, Redo, Templates, Export and Share, plus the back arrow to your project. On smaller screens, header actions move into the more-actions menu, so open that menu if you cannot find Save.
Properties follows your selection. With nothing selected, Properties shows only general scene controls, and different object types show different options. Check what is actually selected and what type of object it is before assuming a control is missing. Click the object on the canvas to bring its options back.
Camera keys work only when the canvas has focus. If you just typed in the Catalog search, the editor types the letter instead of moving the view. Clear the search, click a blank spot on the canvas, and try again. The keys are ignored while Ctrl, Cmd or Alt is held.
Orbit by dragging on empty canvas with the left mouse button in Perspective, pan by holding the right mouse button and dragging, and zoom with the mouse wheel over the canvas. Zoom in small steps so you don't end up inside a nearby object. Camera moves never change object positions.
The floating transform toolbar with Move, Rotate, Scale and Delete appears above the canvas only while an object is selected. If it vanished, you probably clicked empty canvas and cleared the selection. Click the object again and the toolbar, outline and handles return.
No. Orbiting, panning and zooming change only the camera, never object positions. To prove it, drag one object a short distance, press Undo, and watch it return. If something does look moved, press Undo once in case you also dragged a handle by accident.
